Children starting school in the UAE this year will study artificial intelligence before they can write a complete sentence. Algorithms already shape their daily lives, influencing what they watch, hear, and discover years before anyone explains how those choices are made. To address this, the Cabinet’s decision to extend the AI curriculum across public and private schools reaches far beyond the timetable, giving every child the opportunity to understand the technology shaping their education and future work.

With machines capable of producing answers, the core focus of education must shift to refining human judgment. The UAE curriculum dedicates about a quarter of its lessons to ethics. Younger children will encounter AI through stories and play, while older students will study it in greater depth. Minister of Education Sarah Al Amiri emphasized that because children will use AI tools at home regardless of classroom restrictions, bringing AI into school allows teachers to guide that experience and help students recognize errors and risks.

Teachers will carry much of this responsibility, with a commitment to prepare 22,000 educators. Assessments must also evolve to evaluate how students think through problems rather than just reviewing a final output. Furthermore, the UAE plans to make its curriculum available to education ministries worldwide, allowing other countries to benefit from its development and adapt it to their own priorities.
