Qatar has issued a strong condemnation regarding Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s recent entry into Syrian territory, labeling the move as a blatant violation of Syria’s sovereignty, a flagrant breach of international law, and a serious threat to regional security.

Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the crossing of international borders and entry into Syrian territory by Benjamin Netanyahu was entirely illegal. The ministry called upon the international community to take immediate action to compel Israel to adhere to international law, specifically highlighting the 1974 Disengagement Agreement established between Syria and Israel.

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs urges the international community to take urgent action to compel the Israeli occupation to comply with international law resolutions, particularly the 1974 Disengagement Agreement, and to stop its repeated attacks on Syrian territory to prevent further escalation and tension in the region," the official statement released on Thursday emphasized. Additionally, the ministry reiterated Qatar's unwavering support for the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of Syria, alongside solidarity with the Syrian people.

The controversy follows Benjamin Netanyahu's visit to an Israeli military position situated on the Syrian side of Mount Hermon on Wednesday. He was accompanied by Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz and senior military officials. Israel has maintained an illegal occupation of Syria’s Golan Heights since 1967, and following the collapse of Bashar al-Assad’s government in December 2024, Israel expanded its military presence into the UN-monitored buffer zone.

During the visit, Benjamin Netanyahu remarked that Israel had established significant control over the region. Meanwhile, a United Nations Commission of Inquiry warned that Israel's military presence constitutes a belligerent occupation that may involve war crimes. Syria’s Foreign Ministry also condemned the visit as a provocative act violating international law and UN Security Council Resolution 497.
