Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, is set to lead the UAE delegation at the upcoming 18th Brics Summit, scheduled for Saturday and Sunday in New Delhi.
The conference will focus on enhancing financial co-operation and advancing energy transition among Brics members. It also seeks to deepen engagement with emerging economies to foster a more integrated economic system and support shared development and prosperity. According to the state news agency Wam, the UAE's participation highlights its strong commitment to boosting multilateral financial and economic co-operation, while championing dialogue on critical issues affecting emerging and developing economies.
Ahead of the summit, a delegation representing the Ministry of Finance participated in the second meeting of Brics' finance ministers and Central Bank governors, alongside the Special Meeting of the Board of Governors of the New Development Bank (NDB), held in Mumbai on Thursday.
Mohamed Al Hussaini, Minister of State for Financial Affairs, commented on the significance of the event: “Brics is a vital platform for strengthening international economic co-operation and co-ordinating positions on financial and economic issues of common interest, particularly in light of the challenges facing emerging and developing economies. We underscore the importance of continuing this co-operation in support of a more inclusive and balanced global economic and financial system.”
The UAE has welcomed the establishment of the Brics Task Force on Growth and Development this year, emphasizing the necessity of accelerating its initiatives—particularly in areas such as digital transformation, innovation, growth-oriented reforms, labour mobility, and the cultivation of future skills and talent.
Originally founded in 2006 by Brazil, Russia, India and China, Brics aims to improve economic co-ordination across its 11 member countries and partner nations. As a member, the UAE actively supports initiatives that create flexible and efficient financing solutions while strengthening economic and development partnerships to address global economic shifts. The UAE officially joined the New Development Bank in October 2021 and became a full Brics member in January 2024, aligning with its wider strategy to expand international economic partnerships and reinforce its role in multilateral co-operation.
