Abu Dhabi's public parking operator has clarified that new paid parking signs installed across certain areas of the emirate are part of a 'future update'. Q Mobility, which manages public parking and the capital's Darb road toll network, confirmed to The National that customers will be officially notified before any changes take effect.

The installation of these new signs featuring individual area codes recently sparked discussions among residents on social media regarding potential new fees across various neighbourhoods. Additionally, users of the Darb app have noticed a recent platform update displaying designated parking zones throughout the city.

A spokesperson for Q Mobility stated that no immediate action is required from customers, who can continue utilizing existing payment methods and following standard parking regulations. The company advised the public to rely on its official social media channels for future announcements.

Currently, under the Mawaqif system, motorists pay charges based on standard and premium bay categories rather than specific neighbourhoods. However, the introduction of a zoning system by Q Mobility could shift pricing toward a location-based model similar to Dubai's parking structure. This ongoing modernization effort follows the phased expansion of paid parking across districts such as Mussaffah, Mohamed Bin Zayed City, and Al Shahama by Q Mobility since 2024.
