Yemen's Houthi rebels have secured total control over the entire western coast of Yemen alongside the strategic island of Perim, granting them significant dominance over the Bab Al Mandeb strait, which serves as the primary gateway to the Red Sea, according to statements from Yemeni officials given to The National.
“They took it all,” stated a Yemeni security official. “All of the west has fallen, and Perim Island too. They have everything now.”
Confirmation of these developments came from a second security official, who noted that the Houthis also gained control over Zuqar, another vital Red Sea island. Following their capture of Mokha on Thursday, the Houthis pressed forward with their southern offensive, ultimately seizing Dhubab, which is the final major town situated on Yemen's western coast and overlooks both the Bab Al Mandeb Strait and Perim Island, also recognized as Mayyun.
