A bus carrying Dutch tourists crashed near an Alpine village in Switzerland on Thursday, resulting in five deaths and 40 injuries, according to police reports.
Police announced the casualties on Friday, following the incident where the bus, carrying 45 Dutch tourists, overturned and landed in a construction zone near the village of Susch. Grisons canton police stated that three of the injured are in serious condition, seven are moderately hurt, and 30 sustained minor injuries.
Emergency response efforts involved seven rescue helicopters and 13 ambulance crews transporting the casualties to hospitals. The identities of the deceased have not yet been released, and police have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the crash.
Swiss President Guy Parmelin expressed deep shock and dismay on social media, offering sincere condolences to the victims' families. Similarly, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands shared a message of support, stating, "Our hearts go out to the bereaved, to everyone currently fearing for the fate of their loved ones and to the injured. We stand with you in this great tragedy."
