Rescue workers from the UAE have successfully located 10 additional missing people in Nepal following the catastrophic flash flood that struck the nation last month.
Field operations conducted by the UAE Search and Rescue Team, in collaboration with Nepali personnel, have raised the total number of recovered individuals to 18 since the team's deployment began on September 4. The disaster, which occurred on August 26, involved severe mudslides and floods that obliterated villages across Nepal and the Chinese region of Tibet, displacing thousands of residents. Current search operations remain heavily concentrated in Rasuwa and the surrounding areas of the Trishuli River.
To accelerate the search for missing persons, the UAE search and rescue personnel have deployed advanced equipment and technology, including drones, aerial surveys, and three-dimensional mapping systems.
In addition to manpower, the UAE has delivered critical emergency aid via airlift to assist survivors and enhance ongoing rescue missions. This fifth shipment from the Emirates included rescue boats, drones, power equipment, and various technical and logistical tools destined for local Nepali rescue teams.
“UAE teams continue to work alongside the Nepalese authorities, stressing that search and rescue operations are proceeding in line with field priorities and information,” stated Hammoud Al Afari, director of UAE Relief Operations. He emphasized that these efforts highlight the UAE’s enduring commitment to rapid disaster response and humanitarian aid.
The specialized UAE team includes representatives from the UAE Joint Operations Command, Dubai Police's search and rescue division, and the UAE Aid Agency, alongside experts specializing in disaster relief, medical evacuation, and first aid.
According to the latest report from Nepal's National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, the death toll from the floods has reached at least 1,385. Authorities warn that this number is likely to increase as 5,130 people remain missing, while 13,600 individuals have been successfully rescued thus far.
