Iranian state media reported that an Iranian commercial vessel was struck in the Strait of Hormuz late Saturday, resulting in one death and four injuries, as a conflict persists between the US and Iran over control of the critical energy chokepoint.

The incident occurred early in the morning near Qeshm Island in the strait, just a day before Tehran is scheduled to meet regional leaders in Oman to discuss maritime traffic management. An official from Iran's state-run IRNA news agency quoted the Qeshm governor blaming a “terrorist enemy” for the attack, while the US has not yet commented and CNN has reached out to US Central Command.

Separately, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations Centre (UKMTO) reported that another vessel was hit by an unknown projectile in the strait late Saturday, causing a fire and prompting local authorities to assist in evacuating crew members.

Diplomatic efforts continue as top diplomats from Gulf Arab states are expected to meet with Iran’s foreign minister in Oman on Monday, though Bahrain has opted out. President Masoz Pezeshkian stated that the waterway would open only if the US terminates its blockade, a sentiment echoed by Ebrahim Azizi.

Meanwhile, Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels claimed responsibility for an attack on a Saudi military base in the Sharurah region. Houthi spokesperson Yahya Saree stated that ballistic missiles and drones targeted weapons depots, following recent territorial advances near the Red Sea waterway.
