A newly installed memorial display honoring slain right-wing activist Charlie Kirk was vandalized overnight outside the Turning Point Action Burke Family Victory Center in Phoenix, Arizona, according to the organization he co-founded.
Tyler Bowyer, chief operating officer of Turning Point, stated on Sunday that the bronze statue and its accompanying sign were defaced with red spray paint in Phoenix, Arizona. Bowyer shared on X that the vandals crossed over Charlie’s face, scratched out Jesus and the Cross, and sprayed red paint on the statue's neck.
The statue had been unveiled on Thursday to mark the one-year anniversary of Kirk’s death. Kirk, a co-founder of Turning Point and prominent ally of US President Donald Trump, was fatally shot while addressing students at Utah Valley University. The accused assailant, Tyler Robinson, entered a not guilty plea to murder charges earlier this month and faces a possible death penalty.
Phoenix law enforcement authorities confirmed receiving reports on Sunday morning regarding the defaced memorial located outside the headquarters of Turning Point. Organization representatives noted that the vandals appeared to have intentionally targeted the neck area of the statue, which corresponds to the spot where Kirk was shot during an attack that was recorded on video.
Expressing resolve, Turning Point announced in a post on X that they plan to restore the statue and replace the damaged signs while reviewing surveillance footage and cooperating with law enforcement to identify and prosecute the perpetrators.
