US Admiral Brad Cooper recently visited the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier, describing the crew as “awe-inspiring” following reports of supply challenges and mental health concerns.

As the commander of US Central Command, he shared in a statement on X that the Lincoln currently maintains among the lowest mental health-related case numbers out of the US Navy’s 11 active aircraft carriers. However, he acknowledged that service at sea involves unique challenges, noting that stressors affect individuals differently.

The visit follows reports indicating that the 5,000-strong crew spent more than 250 days at sea without a port call. Operating as part of the US war on Iran, the extended deployment prompted lawmakers in Congress to raise questions regarding the physical and mental well-being of sailors, with reports of several crew members attempting to jump overboard.

To address the situation, the US is redeploying the USS George Washington from near Japan to relieve the USS Lincoln. When questioned by a reporter about whether the USS Lincoln deployment was too long, President Donald Trump stated, “No, not nearly long enough”.
