Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Al Zaidi began his inaugural European tour since assuming office in May, arriving in Paris on Monday to garner backing for relieving the strain of the Hormuz crisis on Iraqi oil exports.

French President Emmanuel Macron greeted Mr Al Zaidi at the Elysee Palace, where the discussion centered on Iraq restoring and expanding its energy supply corridors. The ongoing battle against extremist factions in Iraq, such as ISIS, was likewise addressed, with France backing the instruction of Iraqi security forces.

“Securing our energy supplies by working towards de-escalation and developing alternative routes to the Strait of Hormuz means easing the pressure on pump prices,” Mr Macron stated on X, posting an image of the two leaders shaking hands. “Deepening our defence and security co-operation with our partners means continuing together the relentless fight against terrorism.”

Subsequent to his visit to France, Mr Al Zaidi is anticipated to proceed to Germany to confer with Chancellor Friedrich Merz on Tuesday, with both leaders slated to hold a joint press conference.
