US Representative Thomas Massie has introduced a resolution to impeach Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth regarding the US conflict with Iran, delivering a speech on the floor of the House of Representatives at the US Capitol in Washington, DC.

As an outspoken critic of the Trump administration’s war on Iran, Republican Representative Thomas Massie sought to force a long-shot vote in the US Congress. Massie read the articles of impeachment against Hegseth, accusing the Pentagon chief of waging war without congressional approval, conducting extrajudicial killings, and disregarding civilian casualties.

“Secretary Hegseth abused the powers entrusted to him as secretary of defence by subordinating the constitutional limits on the use of military force and the laws governing the conduct of hostilities to his own policy objectives,” Massie stated, noting Hegseth's profound disregard for civilian impacts.

The Pentagon chief has faced scrutiny over the US-Israel war on Iran and remarks dismissing protections designed to minimize civilian casualties. Despite the resolution potentially facing a vote soon, it encounters low chances of success in the Republican-majority US House of Representatives.

The Pentagon defended Hegseth, with press secretary Kingsley Wilson stating that the department remains unified behind the Secretary. Meanwhile, figures such as Massie and Tucker Carlson have criticized the interventionist foreign policy, contrasting with President Donald Trump's past support for the war.
