A new survey reveals that Americans overwhelmingly believe the Iran war has failed to achieve its objectives, alongside a dramatic reversal in public support for Israel. According to the Marquette Law School poll, a majority of respondents also place the blame on President Donald Trump for rising inflation and increasing prices at the petrol pump.

These survey responses highlight the significant political hurdles that President Donald Trump and his Republican Party must navigate ahead of the upcoming November 3 midterm elections. These elections will decide whether Democrats can reclaim power in Congress and halt the remainder of the President's agenda during his final two years in office.

The nationwide poll of 1,023 adults shows widespread skepticism regarding the outcome of the Iran war. Only 13 per cent of participants believe the objectives have been successfully reached, while 87 per cent state they have not. Furthermore, a mere 21 per cent feel the war was worth the cost, compared to 79 per cent who disagree. Meanwhile, the proportion of respondents identifying the war with Iran as their primary issue dropped from 24 per cent in April down to 10 per cent in September.

Support for Israel among the American public has seen a continuous decline. By September, just 29 per cent of respondents in the Marquette poll held a favourable view of the US ally, whereas 59 per cent viewed Israel unfavourably. This represents a steep decline from March 2025, when favourable views stood at 43 per cent. Additionally, a majority of September respondents expressed that the US provides excessive aid to Israel.

The poll also places President Donald Trump's approval rating at 37 per cent, marking a decrease from 40 per cent in July, with other recent surveys estimating his approval as low as 33 per cent. Regarding artificial intelligence, which remains a key concern for numerous voters leading up to the midterms, 64 per cent of respondents stated that AI is detrimental to society, while 36 per cent viewed it positively. President Donald Trump has strongly maintained his support for artificial intelligence, dismissing rising worries as a 'sick conspiracy'. Nevertheless, Democrats may find limited comfort in the findings, as both major political parties face a 64 per cent overall disapproval rating regarding their performance in Congress.
