The UAE's embassy in Washington recently drew attention to the creation of a pioneering artificial intelligence model designed to simulate a human cell and its intricate reactions to medications. The embassy commended the collaborative efforts of California-based GenBio AI, alongside academic and research experts from Abu Dhabi's Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence, Harvard, and Stanhope.

GenBio AI—co-founded by Eric Xing, who also serves as president of the MBZUAI, and Nobel Laureate David Baker—first unveiled the innovative system, known as AIDO Cell, in late August. According to a statement released by GenBio AI, the system acts as a virtual cell by simulating cellular transformations during experiments and projecting how those alterations manifest across diverse experimental measurements.

The company explains that AIDO Cell functions on a "world model" framework. These specialized world models make predictions based on a unified world state, enabling users to implement actions mid-prediction and decode real-world observational responses. Promotional video material from the company highlights that while biologists have traditionally depended on physical laboratory tests to comprehend cellular behavior, AIDO Cell now allows them to execute digital simulations for numerous biological experiments via software.

Interested researchers can currently register for an early access waiting list through the GenBio AI website. Furthermore, the company is actively developing a comprehensive virtual cell bank that will eventually allow researchers to download tailored cells and conduct open-ended experiments. With offices spanning Abu Dhabi, Paris, and California, GenBio AI is seeking strategic partnerships to accelerate the construction of this cell bank.

Reflecting on the technology, the biotechnology firm noted that while cellular biology remains largely unsolved, they have successfully constructed an interactive system that responds like an actual cell. By ingesting multimodal data into a shared world model, the platform continuously enhances its accuracy as it encounters new biological contexts.

Mr Xing emphasized that AIDO Cell represents a significant milestone toward global betterment. Concluding his remarks, he stated that comprehending life necessitates modeling and simulating it across every scale, pointing to GenBio AI's world model as the pathway to a future where biology is computable, predictable, and programmable.
