Qatar and Singapore have reaffirmed their mutual commitment to serving as active, responsible, and constructive members of the international community, while upholding a rules-based international order and an open multilateral trading system.
Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi and Singapore’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Vivian Balakrishnan co-chaired the implementation monitoring mechanism meeting of the two nations' High-Level Joint Committee in Doha on Wednesday. According to a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), the discussions successfully reviewed ongoing bilateral cooperation, explored ways to enhance ties, and evaluated the implementation of agreements established during previous sessions.
The co-chairs assessed progress across the six Technical Working Committees operating under the implementation monitoring mechanism, which focus on Information and Communications Technology, Security, Business, Legal, Sustainability, and Social Development.
Furthermore, both leaders emphasized the importance of elevating relations between Singapore and the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, including upgrading the current free trade agreement. They also acknowledged Qatar’s admission as an ASEAN Sectoral Dialogue Partner in July 2026 and discussed upcoming regional ministerial meetings.
Addressing regional concerns, the co-chairs expressed apprehension regarding renewed U.S.-Iran hostilities, maritime security threats, and Houthi attacks on vessels in the Red Sea, underscoring the necessity of diplomacy and international law to preserve navigational rights. The meeting concluded with Singapore reiterating condolences on the passing of Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, with the fourth implementation monitoring mechanism meeting scheduled to take place in Singapore in 2027.
