Egyptian Minister of Transport Kamel al-Wazir recently met with Senegalese Minister of Fisheries, Maritime Transport, Infrastructure and Ports Amy Mara Dièye to explore the establishment of a direct commercial shipping route connecting Alexandria and Dakar. The initiative aims to significantly boost trade flows between Egypt and West Africa.

During their discussions, Wazir emphasized that the proposed maritime corridor will streamline Egyptian exports into West African markets while granting Senegalese goods enhanced access to the Middle East and Arab nations. He noted that the Alexandria-Dakar connection could serve as the foundation for expanded maritime collaboration and deeper bilateral investment.

The talks also covered potential partnerships in shipbuilding, fishing vessel manufacturing, and specialized maritime training. Officials explored utilizing Egyptian shipyards to construct boats for Senegal, alongside providing technical training programs for Senegalese personnel through Egyptian institutions.

In response, Dièye conveyed Senegal's enthusiasm for broadening ties with Egypt and leveraging its expertise in maritime infrastructure.
