Industry Minister Khaled Hashem stated that the alloys industry serves as a crucial complementary sector within Egypt’s broader industrial strategy, acting as a vital input for iron, steel, and heavy industries. Speaking on Sunday, August 16, 2026, during his inaugural visit to the Abu Zenima Industrial Zone in South Sinai, Hashem highlighted that silicon-manganese and ferromanganese alloys produced by Sinai Manganese Company play an essential role in both domestic and international markets.
According to the minister, these alloys enhance the quality of finished products by removing impurities, increasing steel purity, and improving mechanical properties such as hardness, corrosion resistance, and durability. He noted that rising demand from engineering and construction sectors globally and locally is strengthening the company's contribution to local production, import reduction, and cost efficiency.
The ministry is actively working to expand supporting industries for the iron and steel sector, integrating them into supply chains to boost local manufacturing and export opportunities. Furthermore, Hashem announced that the ministry is collaborating with the South Sinai Governorate and relevant authorities to upgrade utilities at the Abu Zenima Industrial Zone and develop a skilled workforce.
During his visit, the minister was welcomed by South Sinai Governor Ismail Kamal and Saad Abu El-Maati, Chairman of the Chemical Industries Holding Company, alongside Assistant Minister of Industry for Strategic Industries Mohamed Zada, energy adviser Hussein El Ghazawy, and other officials.
The alloys facility operates on a 23,500-square-meter site with EGP 2.5 billion in investments and an EGP 300 million capital. Its current annual capacity stands at 18,000 tons, with projections to reach 50,000 tons by the end of 2028. The plant achieves approximately 60% local content and exports 49% of its production to Türkiye, Libya, and Italy.
