Russian travelers will soon gain direct air access to Egypt’s Mediterranean coast after Russia’s Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsia) authorized new direct routes to Borg El Arab and Al Alamein international airports.
This development introduces Egypt’s northern coastline—previously a popular escape mainly for domestic vacationers—to a wider international demographic, granting Russian tourists direct access to Alexandria, the North Coast, and the growing luxury destination of New Alamein City.
Egypt’s Foreign Ministry praised the announcement, calling it a major step forward in strengthening the aviation and transport relationship between Cairo and Moscow. An official statement highlighted that these new corridors will address growing demand for direct travel while enhancing tourism and cultural ties between the two countries.
Following instructions from the Russian Ministry of Transport, Rosaviatsia has encouraged Russian carriers to submit applications for scheduled flight permits to both coastal locations. The agency also noted its willingness to evaluate charter flight requests to accommodate seasonal traffic.
Russian authorities have officially informed the Egyptian Embassy in Moscow to work alongside relevant aviation authorities and airlines. This expansion represents a strategic move beyond Egypt’s well-known Red Sea destinations of Sharm El-Sheikh and Hurghada, establishing the Mediterranean Riviera as a major new option for Russian travelers.
