International and regional leaders have united in strong condemnation following a recent wave of cross-border strikes by Huthi forces targeting civilian infrastructure in Saudi Arabia. The unified response emerged after the Saudi-led Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen successfully intercepted a ballistic missile aimed at Riyadh, while also thwarting coordinated attacks directed at Baish, Taif, Farasan, and Yanbu.
During a meeting on the sidelines of the 81st UN General Assembly in New York, UN Secretary-General António Guterres and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary-General Jasem Mohamed al-Budaiwi jointly denounced the assaults on civilian locations. Both officials warned that the ongoing military escalation presents a grave threat to overall regional security and stability.
Over recent years, Iran-aligned Huthi forces operating in Yemen have repeatedly deployed ballistic missiles and explosive-laden drones against Saudi energy facilities, urban centers, and airports. Although the Saudi-led coalition has managed to intercept the vast majority of these incoming projectiles, the persistent attacks on civilian population hubs and commercial infrastructure continue to drive regional instability and demand urgent international diplomatic focus.
