Qatar's Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani has unveiled a massive economic strategy and private sector push at the Qatar Economic Forum in New York.

During his address at the Qatar Economic Forum (QEF): UNGA Special Edition on Sunday, Sheikh Mohammed announced a $60 billion domestic investment pipeline and the launch of a new financial platform designed to accelerate private sector growth. He also outlined the next phase of the Gulf state's economic development and explained how the country successfully navigated recent regional supply chain disruptions.

Over the next five years, Qatar expects to award approximately $38.5 billion in new infrastructure projects, with tenders utilizing public-private partnerships set to begin immediately. Additionally, a real estate and hospitality pipeline is projected to attract $22.5 billion in private investment, led by the $5.8 billion Smeasma Beach development.

To manage this substantial expansion, Sheikh Mohammed officially launched Doha Investment, a dedicated platform created to oversee the Qatar Investment Authority’s (QIA) domestic portfolio. The new entity aims to expand the private sector's role in economic growth, deepen local capital markets, and ensure Qatari businesses stay globally competitive.

Addressing recent geopolitical instability in the Middle East, Sheikh Mohammed compared the climate to an earthquake testing foundational strength, response speed, and rebuilding capacity. He highlighted that strategic preparation helped the state weather supply chain disruptions by introducing new shipping routes to bypass maritime bottlenecks. Furthermore, Qatar's financial systems and banking operations absorbed the shock without interruption.

Looking ahead, Sheikh Mohammed pointed to the ongoing North Field expansion as a vital driver that will reinforce Qatar's position as a dependable global energy supplier while advancing economic diversification.
