The UAE delivered critical aid to Colombia on Sunday as part of a $10 million relief package launched last month following a powerful earthquake that claimed over 300 lives and left thousands injured.
The essential supplies airlifted to the South American country consist of food, hygiene kits, and cleaning equipment designed to assist communities still struggling in the aftermath of the natural disaster.
The 7.4 magnitude earthquake struck near the town of San Jose del Palmar in Choco province on August 10, with tremors affecting large areas of western Colombia.
As one of the most severe earthquakes to hit Colombia in recent years, the disaster destroyed thousands of homes and structures, leading the government to declare a state of emergency.
The humanitarian initiative was ordered by President Sheikh Mohamed in the wake of the catastrophe. President Sheikh Mohamed also held a phone conversation with Colombia's new President, Abelardo de la Espriella, last month to offer his deepest condolences to the victims' families and wish the injured a swift recovery, while reaffirming the UAE's strong support for the government and people of Colombia.
Mr de la Espriella thanked President Sheikh Mohamed for the swift humanitarian assistance provided by the UAE during this crisis.
