The main phase of the joint "Medusa-15" military exercise was successfully conducted in Greece following several days of intensive activities. The event took place in the presence of Chief of Staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces Ahmed Khalifa, Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff Dimitrios Houpis, Commander of the Cyprus National Guard Emmanuel Theodorou, and various commanders of the armed forces from the participating countries, alongside the Egyptian and French ambassadors to Greece.
The comprehensive exercise brought together personnel from naval and air forces, air defense, border guards, reconnaissance units, and special forces. This included Egypt’s paratroopers and commandos, as well as military units from Greece, Cyprus, France, and Italy.
Proceedings for the main phase began aboard the Egyptian helicopter carrier “Gamal Abdel Nasser” with a detailed presentation outlining all activities and events carried out during the drills. Following the briefing, multi-role aircraft executed offensive and defensive combat sorties against hostile targets, working in coordination with Joint Terminal Attack Controllers (JTACs) to ensure the precise direction of airstrikes.
Additionally, paratroopers performed parachute drops to secure the beachhead alongside a flag-bearing free-fall jump, showcasing the strong coordination and professionalism of the allied forces. Training drills further featured the boarding and inspection of a suspected vessel, while special forces executed a strategic raid on coastal targets.
An amphibious operation followed, utilizing landing craft deployed from the Egyptian helicopter carrier to transport special forces from the participating nations and seize vital objectives. Attack helicopters delivered crucial fire support to protect the approach corridor for the landing craft. Special forces also carried out a vertical assault operation to highlight their capability to execute joint missions efficiently.
The final phase concluded with organized sailing formations and an impressive air force display. Earlier phases of the exercise included non-standard live-fire drills by naval vessels, specialized firing exercises by special forces, and facility assault training. Furthermore, reconnaissance units practiced deploying explosive drone swarms against hostile naval vessels, border guard personnel collaborated on surveillance and anti-illegal maritime activities, and cybersecurity training courses equipped participants to handle modern electronic warfare challenges.
