United States President Donald Trump’s approval rating has dropped to 32 percent, marking the lowest point of his political career. According to a new Reuters/Ipsos poll, the decline stems from growing dissatisfaction among fellow Republicans regarding his handling of the cost of living and the ongoing, unpopular war on Iran.

The four-day online poll, which concluded on Sunday and gathered 1,277 responses from US adults nationwide with a three-percentage-point margin of error, revealed that 73 percent of Republicans approved of President Donald Trump’s job performance, down from 82 percent the previous week. His overall approval rating had stood at 35 percent at that time, a significant decrease from the 47 percent he enjoyed after returning to the White House in January 2025 with promises to tame inflation and end foreign wars.

Economic concerns remain paramount for voters, with just 17 percent of respondents approving of President Donald Trump’s handling of the cost of living. Americans have indicated this issue will dictate their votes in the November 3 midterm elections, where Republicans are defending narrow congressional majorities.

Voter frustration has intensified since President Donald Trump launched the war on Iran in February, a conflict that has sharply increased gasoline and diesel prices. For the first time, Republicans who disapprove of the administration's management of living costs outnumber those who approve, 51 percent to 44 percent.

Addressing the situation on Wednesday, President Donald Trump stated that the United States is "hopefully toward the end" of the war with Iran, signaling potential renewed diplomacy despite ongoing fighting in Yemen. However, Tehran has not confirmed whether direct negotiations with Washington have resumed.
