Supporters of the Houthis gathered in Sanaa, Yemen, to celebrate advances by the group's forces along the Red Sea coast on September 18, 2026. Following an informal gathering on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, the foreign ministers of the Group of Seven (G7) nations strongly condemned the ongoing and unacceptable strikes by Yemen’s Houthis targeting Saudi Arabia.

In their joint statement, the top diplomats from the UK, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the United States stated they condemn in the strongest terms the continued military actions carried out against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The ministers called upon the Houthis to immediately halt all military activities, threats, and assaults against civilian shipping, urging the group to re-engage in the political process in good faith. Additionally, they demanded that Iran cease supplying arms and support to the group, noting that Tehran's actions violate previous UN Security Council resolutions and create a dangerous escalation that threatens international trade and global stability.

This latest surge in violence within the impoverished Arab nation disrupts a period of relative calm that had persisted since a UN-brokered ceasefire was established in 2022 between the Iran-aligned group and the Saudi-backed Yemeni government.
