Widespread Russian attacks targeting industrial sites and critical energy infrastructure across multiple regions of Ukraine have left at least three people dead and cut power to nearly 100,000 residents, according to Ukrainian officials.
The overnight strikes simultaneously hit industrial facilities in the Dnipropetrovsk region, including Dnipro, Pavlohrad, and Kryvyi Rih, the hometown of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, as reported by regional Governor Oleksandr Hanzha on Telegram on Tuesday. Hanzha stated that three people were killed and six others were wounded in Dnipro, where missiles, drones, and artillery caused heavy damage to business and warehouse premises.
Ukraine's air force reported that Moscow's overnight barrage consisted of 212 drones, four cruise missiles, and an unspecified number of Oniks antiship and ballistic missiles. The assault also severely impacted energy infrastructure. In the northern region of Chernihiv, an attack on a power facility left nearly 100,000 consumers without electricity. Meanwhile, in the Poltava region, Governor Vitalii Diakivnych noted that a massive Russian strike hit an industrial enterprise and a critical infrastructure facility.
The Russian Ministry of Defence confirmed that its forces executed major strikes targeting industrial and military facilities, the fuel and energy sector, port infrastructure, and sea vessels operating for the Ukrainian military. In retaliation, Ukrainian drones targeted Russia's Samara region along the Volga River, resulting in one death and four injuries, according to the local governor. The Russian Defence Ministry reported that its air defence units intercepted and destroyed 297 Ukrainian drones across various regions overnight.
The escalation coincides with President Zelenskyy's arrival in New York for the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), where approximately 130 heads of state have gathered to discuss potential paths to ending the war. Writing on X, the Ukrainian president announced that a drone deal was prepared for signing to bolster air defence and secure war funding. President Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine's primary focus remains bringing peace closer and protecting lives, noting plans for around 20 meetings with the US president, European leaders, US senators, House members, international organization heads, and leading American companies and think tanks.
President Zelenskyy met French President Emmanuel Macron on Monday and is scheduled to meet US President Donald Trump on Tuesday. President Macron also held talks with President Trump, following which the two leaders agreed to pursue a moratorium on strikes targeting energy networks and civilian infrastructure in Ukraine. Both President Zelenskyy and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov are scheduled to address the UNGA later this week.
