Armed Attacker Opens Fire Near Western Turkiye High School, Injuring Eight

An armed man opened fire near a vocational and technical high school in the Turgutlu district of western Turkiye's Manisa province on Tuesday, leaving eight people wounded, including students.

According to a statement issued by the governor's office on X, emergency services rushed the injured victims to nearby hospitals following the early morning attack. Security forces successfully apprehended the suspect as he attempted to flee the scene.

"A report was received regarding gunfire in the vicinity of the Inci Uzmez Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School in our Turgutlu district at 07:59," the governor's office stated, adding that an investigation into the motive behind the shooting is currently underway.

Online images and security camera footage captured the suspect walking near the school holding a firearm prior to his capture by security forces.

This incident follows a series of violent school attacks in Turkiye. In April, a former student wounded 16 people at a high school in the Sanliurfa province before taking his own life. Just a day later, a 14-year-old assailant killed nine people and wounded 13 others at a school in the Kahramanmaras province before being killed by police.
