Israel’s Ambassador to the United States Yechiel Leiter announced that his soldier son sustained injuries during an alleged car-ramming incident at a checkpoint located west of Ramallah within the occupied West Bank.

Earlier on Wednesday, Israeli police reported that a Palestinian man was shot and killed following the incident. In a social media post, Leiter stated that medical professionals "are now fighting to save the life of Neria Dov ben Chana", referencing his son.

According to Israeli police, the shooting occurred after a vehicle approached Israeli forces stationed at a checkpoint near the settlement of Beit Horon. The police stated that the soldier was wounded and is currently receiving medical treatment, while the attacker was killed by the forces.

Israel’s national emergency services evacuated the injured soldier to a hospital in serious condition. Meanwhile, the Palestinian Health Ministry identified the driver as 29-year-old Mahmoud Mohammad Mahmoud Suleiman, noting that Israeli authorities are currently withholding his body.

Danny Danon, Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations, expressed solidarity with the US envoy, stating that the nation is praying for his son following the attack. Notably, another son of Leiter’s, 39-year-old Moshe Yedidya, was previously killed while deployed in Gaza in November 2023.
