Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian addressed reporters in New York on Thursday, firmly denying allegations that Iran is plotting to assassinate Donald Trump. Speaking at the Millennium Hilton hotel during the United Nations General Assembly, Pezeshkian maintained that his government has never sought to target Trump or his family members, despite ongoing accusations from US authorities.
During the wide-ranging session, which also featured Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Pezeshkian discussed the impact of US sanctions and the ongoing war. He provided an update on Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, stating that he recently met with the leader for seven hours and found him to be healthy despite speculation regarding injuries sustained earlier in the conflict.
Addressing domestic issues, Pezeshkian acknowledged the severe economic challenges facing Iran due to US sanctions and the conflict, describing the situation as exceptionally difficult. Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi noted that Iran has presented a proposal to the US through mediators, aiming to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and restart negotiations toward a final agreement.
White House spokesperson Anna Kelly responded to the remarks by highlighting the regime's history of violence and defending the administration's stance on preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon. Despite the tensions, discussions involving mediators remain ongoing.
