Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly emphasized to the UN that Egypt’s water security is an existential matter that allows for no compromise. Madbouly made the remarks on Saturday while delivering Egypt’s address at the General Debate of the High-Level Segment of the 81st Session of the UN General Assembly in New York, on behalf of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.

He affirmed his country’s legitimate right to safeguard its water security and its rejection of any unilateral measures infringing upon its historical water shares, while noting this does not oppose the right of other nations to pursue development through cooperation.

Strengthening effective multilateralism, he further called for restoring confidence in the international system and strengthening effective multilateralism. Madbouly emphasized that the world requires a system that ensures every nation has a voice, respects the principle of sovereign equality, and commits to upholding international law and the peaceful settlement of disputes.

Addressing regional issues, Madbouly presented Egypt’s comprehensive vision regarding various regional and international issues, emphasizing that Palestine’s turmoil stands as the most prominent testament to the flaws within the international system and its credibility. The Palestinian people must not be allowed to become a normalized reality, he stressed.

Madbouly called for consolidating the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, halting violations, ensuring the sustainable delivery of humanitarian aid, and empowering the National Committee for the Management of Gaza. He said that these steps are intended to pave the way for reconstruction and a transition to a serious political process that addresses the root causes of the conflict and leads to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The Prime Minister also called for a comprehensive reform of the UN Security Council and the international financial system to ensure equitable representation and decision-making, and better support the emerging economies of the Global South without imposing additional burdens.
