Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has strongly criticized opposition leaders who have begun coordinating efforts to replace his government ahead of the upcoming October 27 Knesset elections.

The political development follows a meeting on September 26, 2026, where five prominent politicians gathered at opposition leader Yair Lapid’s home in Tel Aviv to formulate a joint strategy, as reported by Israel’s Channel 12.

In his initial response to the agreement, Netanyahu claimed that Yashar leader Gadi Eisenkot intends to form a government alongside Yair Lapid, Yair Golan, Bennett 2026, Yisrael Beiteinu, and various Arab parties. Posting on X, Netanyahu warned, “Only a strong Likud will stop them,” and shared an AI-altered image that falsely included United Arab List leader Mansour Abbas and Hadash-Ta’al leader Ahmad Tibi in the meeting.

The actual gathering was attended by Yair Lapid of Yesh Atid, Naftali Bennett of Bennett 2026, Avigdor Lieberman of Yisrael Beiteinu, Gadi Eisenkot of Yashar, and Yair Golan of the Democrats.

Following the meeting, Yair Lapid shared a group photograph alongside a signed document outlining their coordinated principles leading up to and following the election. The agreement commits each party leader to boosting voter turnout within their constituencies and securing a parliamentary majority.

To achieve this, the leaders established three joint working groups:

  • First Group: Focused on maximizing voter turnout and safeguarding election integrity.
  • Second Group: Tasked with drafting basic government guidelines, including an official commission of inquiry into the October 7, 2023 attacks and a new constitution.
  • Third Group: Responsible for coordinating media strategies and countering alleged smear campaigns.

Former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett expressed strong optimism on X, stating, “I am filled with hope again tonight. I am confident that we can win 63 seats and work together to fix Israel.” He added, “We have agreed to fully cooperate until the election, on election day, and after the election, with gallbladder-style precision to form a government that will fix Israel.”
