The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank has commenced its 11th Annual Meeting in Doha, announcing a strategic vision to scale up annual financing to approximately $20 billion by the year 2030 as it steps into its second decade with an emphasis on sustainable infrastructure, climate resilience, and innovation.
The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank brought together policymakers, financial leaders, and development partners at the Sheraton Grand Doha for the two-day gathering held under the theme Tomorrow’s Infrastructure: Impact and Innovation.
Opening the meeting, AIIB President Zou Jiayi emphasized the bank's commitment to maximizing its developmental impact while upholding high investment standards. "The Bank’s goal for the next stage is to scale up development impact with innovation and integrity," Jiayi stated, highlighting how infrastructure bridges people to new opportunities.
Under its upcoming strategy, the AIIB aims to double its annual financing, directing future funds toward climate resilience, renewable energy, digital transformation, regional connectivity, nature conservation, and people-centred development. Since its inception in 2016, the institution has expanded to 111 approved members, committing more than $79 billion across 400 projects in 43 economies, backed by a $100 billion capitalization.
Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani participated in the opening ceremony alongside Jiayi and Minister of Finance Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari, who also serves as Qatar’s Governor at the AIIB and Chair of its Board of Governors. Minister of Commerce and Industry Sheikh Faisal bin Thani bin Faisal Al Thani was additionally present among the Qatari delegation.
Reflecting on its momentum, the AIIB approved $10.6 billion for 57 projects in 2025 alone, with 71 percent of that funding dedicated to climate-positive outcomes. Al Kuwari underscored Qatar's dedication to multilateral cooperation and sustainable infrastructure as vital catalysts for economic growth and stability during his address to delegates.
