A Syrian court has handed down a death sentence to Wasim Al Assad, cousin of former Syrian president Bashar Al Assad, according to reports from Syrian state media.
The verdict was delivered by the Fourth Criminal Court in Damascus following his conviction on charges of premeditated murder.
Wasim Al Assad was apprehended by security forces in June during a major operation. At the time of his capture, the Interior Ministry identified him as the leader of the Baath Brigades militia and labeled him as "one of the top narcotics dealers and criminals in the bygone regime."
