Qatar has reaffirmed its steadfast support for resolving the Russia-Ukraine crisis through diplomatic dialogue, highlighting the successful reunification of 87 Ukrainian children with their families across 14 humanitarian operations. Speaking at the Second International Conference on Returning Ukrainian Children, Detained Civilians, and Prisoners of War in Toronto, Mariam bint Ali Al Misnad, Qatar’s Minister of State for International Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, emphasized that civilian and child protection must remain central to international initiatives.

Conducted in coordination with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), these mediation and humanitarian efforts have included hosting several reunited families in Doha to provide specialised recovery and rehabilitation programmes supporting their physical and psychological wellbeing.

As part of its wider commitment to addressing the conflict's impact, Doha has pledged $100 million to Ukraine’s humanitarian response. This funding covers critical sectors such as healthcare, education, and basic services. Additional Qatari contributions include a $3.5 million project for safe shelters, schools, and kindergartens, a $20 million contribution to the Ukrainian grain export initiative, 50 university scholarships for Ukrainian students, $5 million for refugees and internally displaced persons, and partnerships with the Olena Zelenska Foundation to rebuild healthcare facilities.

Al Misnad concluded by affirming that humanitarian assistance and development remain central pillars of Qatar’s foreign policy, complementing ongoing diplomatic efforts to de-escalate conflicts and alleviate human suffering worldwide.
