A new report released on Monday by the Egyptian Cabinet’s Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC) highlights the current state of Egypt’s food industry sector, detailing its vital role in bolstering both food security and economic growth.

According to the report, the total value of Egyptian food industry exports climbed to approximately US$6.9 billion in 2025. This marks a substantial increase from about $4.1 billion in 2021, representing an impressive growth rate of nearly 68.3 percent.

The sector comprises numerous key industries, including dairy and dairy products, sugar and sugar-based products, frozen vegetables and strawberries, fruit and vegetable preparations, and oils, aromatic resins, and their derivatives. In 2025, these exports constituted roughly 14 percent of total non-oil merchandise exports, securing the sector the third-ranking position among non-oil industrial sectors by export value, trailing only behind construction materials and chemical products & fertilizers.

Infrastructure and Labor Market Growth

Focusing on the enhancement of supply chains and infrastructure, the grain storage system experienced substantial expansion over recent years. Driven by the National Silos Project, the count of operational silos reached 87 with a combined storage capacity of approximately 3.8 million tons in 2025, a significant rise from the 32 silos recorded in 2014.

Data from the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) for the fourth quarter of 2024 revealed that the workforce within the food product manufacturing sector comprised about 15.4 percent of total employment across public establishments, public business sector entities, and the private sector. This figure underscores the sector's critical significance within the labor market and broader industrial activities.

Investment and Sustainability

Regarding investment growth, the number of newly established companies within the food industry sector grew from 1,127 in 2019 to 1,530 in 2024, reflecting a growth rate of approximately 35.8 percent.

Furthermore, the report emphasized ongoing state initiatives aimed at minimizing food loss and waste, strengthening supply chains, and driving the transition toward more efficient and sustainable production methods.
