Tourism and Antiquities Minister Sherif Fathy chaired a meeting of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) Authority’s Board of Directors on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization.

During the session, GEM CEO Ahmed Ghoneim presented an overview of the museum's recent activities and events. Highlights included high-profile visits by President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and his wife, alongside Chinese President Xi Jinping and his wife during his official state visit earlier in the month.

The board evaluated visitor statistics and revenue data recorded from the official opening in November 2025 through the end of August. The institution has welcomed approximately four million visitors, with attendance figures climbing as the new tourist season begins.

Additionally, the board approved the authority’s amended financial statements and final accounts for the 2025/2026 fiscal year. Members also accepted a French donation of humidity-monitoring devices, provided through the Egyptian-French archaeological cooperation project, to enhance preventive conservation efforts across the galleries.

Finally, leadership reviewed ongoing preparations for memorandums of understanding with various international universities and archaeological institutions aimed at strengthening global collaboration with the Grand Egyptian Museum Authority.
