The administration of United States President Donald Trump has officially launched a new website named America.gov, designed to streamline how citizens access government information. US President Donald Trump signed an executive order establishing the platform on Tuesday.
Functioning similarly to AI chatbots like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Anthropic’s Claude, the website directs users to official government sources for inquiries such as passport renewals. President Trump announced the new portal on Tuesday alongside several Cabinet officials, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy. During his speech, the president stated that the platform will not store user information, while highlighting its role in simplifying access to election details and citizenship applications.
According to chief design officer Joe Gebbia, the site is powered by Google’s Gemini AI and xAI’s Grok. The executive order describes the platform as a unified digital front door to the Federal Government, allowing individuals to communicate in plain language, receive accurate answers, and complete government transactions without navigating multiple agency websites.
White House officials informed Al Jazeera that the website adheres to the security protocols of the specific government agencies being queried, with data retained by those agencies rather than America.gov.
When Al Jazeera tested the platform's responses on various topics, it provided neutral or factual answers based on official records. For future updates, Secretary of State Marco Rubio demonstrated that the platform aims to eventually help Americans apply for passports directly and upload passport photos. The website was developed in coordination with the National Design Studio.
