Intense diplomatic efforts by the Foreign Ministry have successfully secured the release of Egyptian doctor Peter Semaan Marzouk from detention in the Maldives, facilitating his safe return home.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty had previously instructed the Egyptian embassy in Sri Lanka, which holds non-resident representation in the Maldives, to urgently engage Maldivian authorities to negotiate the citizen's release and provide vital consular support. Meanwhile, the ministry's consular sector remained in constant contact with the citizen's family to keep them updated on the progress.

Assistant Foreign Minister for Consular Affairs and Egyptians Abroad Haddad Abdel-Tawab al-Gohary led intensive communications with the director of the Maldivian foreign ministry's consular department, emphasizing the need for proper treatment and a speedy release. These cooperative diplomatic efforts ultimately led Maldivian authorities to approve the release.

Following his return, Ambassador El-Gohary welcomed the citizen and his family at the ministry headquarters, where the family expressed deep gratitude for the swift intervention by the ministry and related agencies. In light of the incident, the Foreign Ministry reminded Egyptian travelers abroad to strictly follow local laws and regulations and to promptly reach out to the nearest Egyptian embassy or consulate when encountering any legal difficulties.
