Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has instructed the Interior Ministry to implement necessary measures aimed at serving the best interests of citizens regarding private vehicle licensing.
These new directives focus on enhancing service quality, rationalizing vehicle licensing expenses, and ensuring that citizens are treated with courtesy and respect. Such instructions come at a time when vehicle licensing and renewal procedures remain a subject of significant public interest, directly affecting millions of citizens due to the complex requirements involved.
Vehicle license renewal fees at traffic units vary depending on the vehicle’s engine capacity and the duration of the license. Additional charges apply for inspections, insurance, documentation, electronic stickers, and other necessary procedures. Total costs for a three-year renewal can range from LE4,000 to LE6,000 or more, excluding traffic fines.
Vehicle tax amounts fluctuate based on engine displacement, ranging from approximately LE 225 for smaller engines up to 2.5 percent of the vehicle's value for engines exceeding 2,030 cc. Requirements for car licensing in 2026 include tax payments, civil liability insurance, safety compliance, GPS installation, medical examinations, and other documentation.
