The meteoric rise of private markets has brought more diverse and flexible transactions to the table, contrasting with standard financing solutions from traditional bank lending or public markets. This enables financing to be deployed across different product formats, using fund finance and securitisation techniques to offer global investors a variety of options with potentially less correlated returns.

Three broad trends are driving this growth. First, institutional investors like insurers, pension funds, and sovereign wealth funds manage about $100 trillion and seek reliable long-term returns. Second, financial innovation allows lenders and investors to package income-generating assets into investments for a wider group of institutions. Third, astronomical digital and energy infrastructure financing needs have overwhelmed traditional bank financing and public market debt.

Innovation is further shaped by the need for scale, steady income, and better use of capital. Areas seeing development include fund finance, insurance-linked securities, and the use of digital technology like blockchain. However, risks such as refinancing pressures, outdated technology, and complex structures must be monitored as the market continues to evolve.
