The UAE's attorney general has ordered an investigation into a mid-flight altercation aboard a flydubai aircraft that forced the plane to divert to Saudi Arabia. Dr Hamad Saif Al Shamsi directed a specialist team to examine flydubai flight FZ1073, which was traveling from Dubai airport to Tel Aviv on Wednesday. According to the news agency Wam, the probe will investigate whether the mid-air incident involved "any terrorist activity or purpose or involved prior planning or direction."

While details remain unclear, the Boeing 737 plunged 14,000 feet during a cockpit altercation before diverting. The pilot and co-pilot sustained injuries in the flight deck incident, prompting crew members and passengers to intervene and safely land the aircraft at Saudi Arabia’s Tabuk Airport.

The UAE investigation team has started working alongside the General Civil Aviation Authority and other relevant UAE authorities. The attorney general has advised the public to avoid sharing unverified information following early reports filled with inaccuracies. Under UAE law, crimes committed on UAE-registered aircraft fall under UAE court jurisdiction regardless of the location.

Flydubai Captain Smit Machchhar, who was stabbed aboard flight FZ1073, has been hailed as a hero for preventing a potential disaster. The Indian aviator was publicly recognized by the Israeli Prime Minister, and the Indian embassy in Riyadh confirmed he is in a stable condition.
