Flames were recently spotted at a facility belonging to Saudi oil giant Aramco, located south of Riyadh, as Yemen’s Houthi rebels claimed responsibility for an attack on the Saudi capital using ballistic missiles and drones.
In a statement posted on X, Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree stated that the group executed a military operation targeting Aramco in Riyadh, claiming the strikes were precise and direct, resulting in fires at the site. Neither Saudi authorities nor Aramco have commented on the cause of the fire or reported an official attack, despite a large plume of smoke and fire being observed near the facility.
In response to the escalating tensions, the Saudi-led coalition backing Yemen’s internationally recognised government conducted 97 precise targeting operations against Houthi reinforcements on the Tor al-Baha front and the Taiz axis. Colonel Majed Abdullah al-Nazili reported that these operations targeted at least 260 Houthi fighters and destroyed or disabled 44 military vehicles.
This incident follows previous claims by the Houthis regarding attacks on Aramco facilities in Yanbu and a recent strike on a power station in Medina. Conflict in the region has intensified significantly since a fragile 2022 truce collapsed in July, leading to widespread displacement after the Houthis temporarily seized the port city of Mocha and strategic islands in the Bab al-Mandeb strait in mid-September.
