Angelina Jolie has shared satellite images revealing the extensive destruction in Gaza, appealing for urgent shelter and humanitarian assistance as winter approaches. The Oscar-winning actress and former UN goodwill ambassador posted a series of before-and-after images on Instagram on Saturday, depicting neighborhoods across the enclave severely impacted by the conflict.

“You can now open Google Earth and see what was done to Gaza,” Jolie wrote, noting that entire neighborhoods have been reduced to rubble, affecting homes, schools, universities, hospitals, roads, and sanitation systems.

The updated imagery surfaced online, showing widespread devastation where landmarks, mosques, and schools once stood. A UN Satellite Centre assessment highlighted by Jolie indicated that 82 percent of structures in Gaza had sustained damage as of June 16, with about two-thirds considered destroyed.

Jolie, 51, emphasized the dire conditions facing Palestinians ahead of winter, stating that 1.98 million people, representing 94 percent of Gaza's population, urgently require shelter assistance and essential items. She pointed out that aid and shelter materials continue to face significant restrictions and delays.

“The Google Earth images show the physical destruction with extraordinary clarity. What they cannot show is what it means to live among it, what happened to the families who were killed, and what life is like for those who survived,” she wrote, calling for aid to reach civilians at scale and for hospitals to receive necessary medical supplies.

This intervention follows previous advocacy efforts by Jolie, including a visit in January to the Egyptian side of the Rafah border crossing, where she met with Egyptian Red Crescent workers and viewed aid warehouses. Reports have also linked her to potential plans to establish an SOS village for orphans in Gaza, following statements made by Palestinian activist Samer Sinijlawi during an online panel convened by Germany's Candid Foundation.

Jolie has maintained an active voice on the crisis since its onset, previously condemning the initial attacks while criticizing the severe impact on civilians in Gaza. With a humanitarian career spanning over two decades, including long-term work with the UN refugee agency, Jolie continues to draw global attention to the critical needs of displaced populations.
