The UAE concluded its 2026 Asian Games campaign on Sunday with another equestrian success at JRA Equestrian Park in Tokyo. Abdullah Humaid Al Muhairi, riding Hudson de Vains, secured an individual silver medal following a tense three-way jump-off. This achievement builds upon the silver medal won by the Emirates team in Thursday's final, bringing the UAE's total medal count for the Games to 12, consisting of seven gold, four silver, and one bronze.
In Competition A, Humaid Abdulla Khalifa Al Muhairi narrowly missed a podium finish, placing fourth aboard Mentos. Meanwhile, in the 1.55m Competition B, Omar Abdul Aziz Al Marzooqi finished sixth with Enjoy de la Mure, and Sheikha Latifah Bint Ahmed Al Maktoum took seventh place with Cornet XL.
Reflecting on his performance, Abdullah said, "I'm happy to finish second, but of course I could have been first. That's the sport. It's always up and down, and you never know whether you're going to win, be placed or be out of the competition. But I'm happy with a medal." He added, "I'm so proud of Hudson. He's just nine years old and still lacks some experience, but our competitions and training over the summer have really paid off."
The medal decider featured a dramatic conclusion starting with Qatar's Faleh Alajmi, who clocked a fence down in 40.88 seconds. Abdullah entered next aiming for a clear round to target gold, but increased his pace out of excitement, incurring a fault at an oxer and finishing in 41.93 seconds. Saudi Arabia's Khaled Almobty, the final competitor, dropped the last fence, securing the gold for Qatar and bronze for Saudi Arabia.
Discussing his tactics, Abdullah noted, "After I saw the Qatari rider have a fence down, my plan was to go clear. But you never know. When you're in the ring, you want to go faster."
In the challenging 1.55m Competition B on Sunday, Al Marzooqi carried four faults from Saturday into a flawless clear round to claim sixth overall. Sheikha Latifah entered the final round carrying zero faults following a strong Saturday performance with Cornet XL, but two dropped fences relegated the pair to seventh. "I'm very disappointed with my round. I'm not disappointed with my riding, just disappointed with the result," she remarked. "The way he jumped every other fence, I don't think the result does justice to his performance."
