As the UAE marks World Humanitarian Day, the country's extensive humanitarian efforts across global conflict and disaster zones in 2026 have come into sharp focus. Billions of dirhams have been committed to relief operations, targeting hunger, preventable diseases, and educational access worldwide.

Among the major initiatives is the Edge of Life campaign, launched by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, which successfully raised over Dh2.82 billion to protect five million children from hunger with the backing of more than 44,000 individuals, companies, and humanitarian organizations.

Relief operations have continued extensively in Gaza and Sudan, alongside emergency responses to natural disasters in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Notably, the Emirates Red Crescent distributed 4,000 iftar meals in Sindh province, Pakistan. Furthermore, Sheikh Mohammed launched an initiative to eradicate river blindness, aiming to benefit millions over a three-year period.

Education remains a cornerstone of the UAE's international assistance. The Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation opened the Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Institute for Vocational Education in Senegal, serving approximately 1,000 students. Additionally, the Emirates Red Crescent's Ramadan programmes reached over 1.5 million people domestically and across 44 other countries.

The International Charity Organisation deployed humanitarian projects worth more than Dh353 million in the first half of 2026, while the Zayed for Good Foundation surpassed Dh2 billion in assistance across 180 countries since its inception in 1992. The UAE also aided flood victims in Syria, Ghana, and Bangladesh, while the Emirates Red Crescent rehabilitated flood-damaged homes in Pahang state, Malaysia.

In conflict zones, Operation Gallant Knight 3 in the Gaza Strip surpassed its 1,000th day of relief, delivering more than $3.89 billion in assistance, including 126,000 tonnes of relief through multiple transport channels. Campaigns like Step of Hope have also provided prosthetic limbs to amputees in Gaza.

The UAE remains a major supporter of the Sudanese people, providing substantial aid that exceeds $800 million since the current crisis began in 2023, positioning the nation as the second-largest donor to Sudan according to UN data. Beyond financial aid, the UAE has supported humanitarian efforts in Ukraine by facilitating significant prisoner exchanges.
