All American bombers previously stationed at RAF Fairford in England have returned to the US, according to a Pentagon announcement made on Sunday. This redeployment comes exactly one week after five individuals were detained outside the military facility.
The US military had utilized the base located in Gloucestershire as a strategic staging area for B-1B heavy bombers amid the ongoing conflict involving Iran.
The security situation unfolded in the early hours of September 27 when a member of the public spotted suspicious activity near RAF Fairford, leading to the arrest of five British men on suspicion of preparing a terrorist act and explosives offenses.
A Defence Department official stated in a release, "While operational security precluded us from confirming the movement of our assets and forces in real time, we can acknowledge now that all US bombers that were deployed to RAF Fairford have re-deployed to their home stations in the United States."
The official emphasized that the personnel operating America's bomber fleet—spanning B-1s, B-2s, and B-52s—remain fully prepared to execute precision global strike operations directly from the continental United States at any moment.
UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham remarked on Wednesday that there were compelling indications pointing to potential Iranian involvement in the security breach.
Although the initial five suspects apprehended near the perimeter have since been released on bail, British law enforcement confirmed that a sixth individual—an Iranian UK dual citizen—was taken into custody in central London on Thursday in connection with the alleged plot targeting the US airbase situated in the Cotswolds.
