Early Monday, Israeli forces shot and killed a man in occupied Syrian territory as renewed Israeli incursions and military activities escalated across southern Syria. According to a statement released by the Israeli military without specifying the exact location, the incident occurred shortly after midnight in the Israeli-occupied area of southern Syria. The military reported that Israeli troops “identified a suspect who tried to infiltrate” an Israeli military post, prompting them to open fire and kill him.
The Israeli military confirmed that no casualties were sustained among its forces. However, officials did not identify the man, state whether he was carrying weapons, or provide any evidence indicating an intention to enter the military post. This fatal shooting followed a series of Israeli military operations across Quneitra on Sunday.
According to reports from the Syrian state news agency Sana, extensive Israeli land-clearing operations took place near Al Asha in southern Quneitra. The Sana correspondent in Quneitra noted that more than seven Israeli bulldozers and military vehicles moved into the area southwest of Al Rafid. There, forces proceeded to dig a deep trench close to the 1974 disengagement line inside Syrian territory.
Sana explained that the ongoing engineering work aims to expand the barrier known as the “Sufa 53 Line,” an earthen structure traversing the region. In response to these actions, the Syrian Foreign Ministry issued a condemnation of the project, labeling it a direct violation of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement.
Earlier in the week on Thursday, Sana reported that Israeli forces moved into Bariqa and Al Hamidiyah in Quneitra, where they searched civilian homes and detained a young man. Additionally, the report highlighted two Israeli artillery shells landing on agricultural land near the Al Mantara dam.
In defense of their actions, the Israeli military stated that its forces will maintain operations in the region to counter what it characterizes as ongoing threats to Israeli civilians and troops.
