Dubai Police have confiscated more than 400 e-scooters, e-bikes, and bicycles following a targeted road safety campaign in the city's Gold Souk area, aimed at curbing traffic rule breaches and dangerous riding.

According to officials at Naif Police Station, the operation resulted in the seizure of 300 e-scooters, 50 e-bikes, and 58 bicycles. Riders caught violating regulations faced legal action as part of ongoing measures to minimize accidents and injuries.

Brig Omar Ashour, director of Naif Police Station, highlighted the department's strong focus on traffic awareness. Alongside enforcement, officers distributed safety equipment and supplies to approximately 932 workers in the area, educating them on proper paths, regulations, and protective gear.

Authorities have reiterated that riding in unauthorized zones significantly increases accident risks. This follows earlier figures from Dubai Police showing that 13,657 e-scooters have been confiscated this year alone due to reckless behavior, such as speeds exceeding 60kph on public roads, well above the legal 20kph limit on designated routes.

Recent data from the Ministry of Interior indicated a 97 per cent surge in major e-scooter accidents in 2025, rising from 61 to 120 compared to the previous year. Furthermore, a perception study by Al Wathba Insurance and RoadSafetyUAE revealed that 93 per cent of UAE residents have witnessed reckless e-scooter use, with 90 per cent feeling unsafe as a result.

In Dubai, e-scooter operators must be at least 16 years old, hold a Roads and Transport Authority permit, and use designated areas such as Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard, Jumeirah Lakes Towers, Dubai Internet City, Al Rigga, City Walk, Palm Jumeirah, and Karama.
