The United Arab Emirates announced on Wednesday the immediate suspension of all economic activities, trade exchanges, and financial transactions with Iran.

"The United Arab Emirates rejects all claims regarding the status of its economic relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran, while reaffirming its steadfast commitment to dialogue, co-operation and regional integration as essential means to enhance peace, stability, and prosperity in the region," stated Afra Al Hameli, director of strategic communications at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a message published on X.

Ms Al Hameli explained that the suspension will remain in effect until further notice "in light of regional escalations that undermine regional and international peace and security."

She added, "The United Arab Emirates remains firmly committed to safeguarding the integrity of the international financial system, in line with international law and the highest global standards."

The announcement follows multiple attacks targeting the UAE from Iran amid the ongoing conflict with the US. On Tuesday, the Ministry of Defence reported that two ballistic missiles were fired from Iran toward the UAE, with one landing outside territorial waters and the second hitting inside. The ongoing conflict has resulted in at least a dozen fatalities and over 200 injuries within the UAE.
