Iran’s Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni arrived in Doha late on Monday for discussions with Qatari officials regarding bilateral security cooperation and regional developments, as reported by Iran’s state-run Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).

Momeni arrived on Monday evening at the official invitation of Qatar’s Minister of Interior and Commander of the Internal Security Forces (Lekhwiya), Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani. Upon his arrival, he was officially received by Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Faisal Al Thani, Qatar’s Minister of State for Interior Affairs.

During the visit, Momeni is scheduled to hold talks with his Qatari counterpart and other officials focusing on bilateral relations and security cooperation. The agenda includes information exchange, operational cooperation in combating terrorism and organised crime, tackling drug trafficking, border and maritime security, cybersecurity, and international police cooperation.

Additional topics on the agenda involve regional developments, cooperation on border equipment and technology, consular and expatriate affairs, and educational and academic cooperation. Momeni is accompanied on the trip by Tehran Governor General Mohammad Sadegh Motamedian and Hormozgan Governor General Mohammad Ashouri Taziani.

This visit follows recent high-level contacts between Qatar and Iran, including a Qatari delegation's visit to Tehran in September to meet Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, and a trip by Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani to Tehran on August 27. Qatar continues to play a mediating role between the U.S. and Iran to bridge differences as efforts to end the conflict persist.
