Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that diplomatic talks between the U.S. and Iran remain active, with ongoing message exchanges facilitated through Doha and regional partners. The confirmation came as Iran’s Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni held a meeting with Qatar’s Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani at the Amiri Diwan on Tuesday, highlighting continued mediation efforts.
Eskandar Momeni arrived in Doha late Monday, with the Ministry of Interior expected to release further details regarding the visit. Discussions between the Iranian official and the Amir focused on regional developments and strategies to de-escalate tensions to bolster regional and international security and stability.
During the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' weekly media briefing on Tuesday, Media and Communications Department Director Ibrahim bin Sultan Al Hashmi stated that communications and visits related to the mediation process are persistent and active, aiming for tangible progress. Although declining to discuss technical specifics, he reiterated that Qatar continues to act as a mediator between the parties.
Emphasizing dialogue, Al Hashmi noted that negotiations are the most effective approach given the severity of the dispute, stressing the need to address the concerns of all involved parties. Regarding the Mecca Alliance, he affirmed that Qatar supports regional initiatives designed to protect security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, though he remarked it was premature to discuss Qatar potentially joining the pact.
Additionally, Al Hashmi reiterated Qatar's backing for Saudi Arabia, condemning recent Houthi attacks targeting the kingdom, Islamic holy sites, and civilian infrastructure.
